Legends Awards 2012

At the end of August we were invited to perform at and receive an award at the Legends Awards 2012 ( Lyric Theatre Gold reef city) for our contribution to the arts and for making a difference in South Africa. We felt both honored and humbled. We were asked to put together a 30 sec video clip of our accomplishments and how we have made a difference to show when receiving our award. Thank you to Big M productions for this honor.
We spent a day at the lyric theater rehearsing with Afrofusion Cast, which was really amazing, putting together some of our choreography with theirs( hopefully will post some of that soon). They were such a great group to work with. We also  had 4 minutes to show 4 different dance styles  of our own including costume changes, so here is our new Fusion Medley.

July and August

Some of our performances these last two months:
Moulin rouge Themed 21st.
Grease lighting Rock n Roll themed function: including teaching a Grease dance workshop
Masked Ball at University of Johannesburg  graduation cocktail party- performed Burlesque, CanCan and Latin/Samba .Was a lot of fun to do an extra Moulin rouge section wearing masks during the Fashion Show.

Finished 3 new Medleys: Hula fire with staff, Moulin Rouge, Samba and made 2 new costumes.
Flash mob: We had a great time doing our first flash mob with Adrelatin and have another coming up.

We've also been focusing a lot on our charity work with The Family Africa:

Performed 7 HIV education shows using drama and dance in Lenasia and made it in the papers.

Performed 3 benefit shows in townships for Mandela Day.

Gearing up for:
26th August: the Legends Award Ceremony at the Lyric theater, we'll be dancing along side some Bollywood stars and receiving an award.
27th August; going to KZN to perform more HIV/Education shows in township schools.
1st September: 2 different around the world shows and a Bolly show  21st birthday party.
2nd September: Syncopate 'The Carnival"

We've also been working hard on some contemporary routines for Concours Festival and National Championships.
Inspiration this month: we got to attend a sneak preview of Step up 4...aaaah seeing Twitch again was so inspiring, having a chance to be taught by him at the SYTYCD workshops earlier this year was the best......he should totally have been  the star of the movie.

November Highlights

November is the busiest time of year for corporate shows, as everyone one wants to squeeze in their Christmas functions before December when most clients go away. There are not enough hours in the day to keep up with the multitude of shows.  It's great fun as you never know what themes you will be asked for and of course for  each themed show new routines must be learned, usually under very short time constraints.  Here are just some of the highlights.

Corporate show in Kroon-Stad
Theme was Rio Carnival. Awesome costume rentals

Because you Can Can Can- Corporate Show at Gold Reef City

(Unfortunately for most of these shows, only cell phone pics were available, so our apologies for  the quality.)

October 2011 highlights

The last few months of 2011 was such a mad rush, with so many shows, style changes, new routines to learn, new costumes, taking dance exams, travelling etc  that we had no time to blog. Now its time to sit down and sift through all the pictures and blog. Here are a few highlights. We hope that you enjoy it.

We had the opportunity to play a part in a South African TV drama, where the episode was written around a dance team. For this they needed real dancers so we spent a couple of days in rehearsals with the cast and then filmed at the Lyric Theatre in Gold Reef city.

Hair and make up was great, below you can see the hair pieces attatched to Beths hair.
 Awesome makeup too.

We then went to Bloemfontein for some corporate shows at the Black Mountain Resort. This was the biggest team we have performed with so far with up to 9 dancers on the stage at a time.

 Above: Brazil

Add in a little contemporary for good measure.
We performed a  total of 15 shows in the month of October.

I don't like cricket-I love it! and Hawaiian dancing.

And we thought this week was going to be quiet. It started off with a phone call for Chloe to join the cricket dancing team for the T20 South Africa vs Australia match on Sunday 16th oct, which meant 3 days of rehearsals, and then the next day for Beth to audition as well. This all came about from an audition Chloe did for 'Dance your Butt off' TV show, where she met an amazing dancer ( Tracy) who recommended her for the cricket dancing . So after three days of rehearsals, on Sunday Beth and Chloe danced for 3 hours with 27 other dancers (the match was televised on Super Sport 2).The way cricket dancing works is there are a number of  stages around the stadium and every time a 4 or a 6 is hit the dancers have to jump on the stage and do a certain routine that coincides with that number.
Each team has three members. Above: the girls team.

Then came another call, could they perform with Oriental fire on Friday ETV Sunrise live at 5:45 am. But of course they can

Friday afternoon Chloe taught a Hawaiian dance workshop, teaching not only the moves but all the word meaning of the motions. Then Chloe and Beth did Hawaiian fire dancing  followed by Limbo dancing for all. This package is great for young and old and has been such a hit over the last two years.

Then on Saturday they performed at the FNB Diwali Gauteng Festival at New-town with Oriental Fire
doing theOriental Fire bolly-wood Medley  (this is rehearsal footage) and  Burning on the dance floor (the three girls are on the right hand side of the stage, low quality footage, but still fun to watch)

Dance your heart out

Over the last week the girls have danced their heart out switching between so many different dance styles. From Hip Hop, Show girl, Latin and ballroom, Cabaret, Contemporary,Bollywood,  Bellydance, Fire, Micheal Jackson style and more.( next week we will be posting more pictures and video clips-once edited)

First was the Fourways High Matric dance, held at the Indaba Hotel, the theme being ‘White’ they danced in some amazing show girl outfits, then cabaret, contemporary and hip hop. This was all done accompanying a live singer ( who flew up from Capetown for the show) which is always a challenge.
Back stage with the singer. Notice the amazing feathers  attached to the girls legs.
The next day one of their friends had their 21st birthday and Beth and Chloe did bellydance, poi, and fire.

Then the next day they performed for the opening of a new shopping center again switching through several dance styles.  They had a chance to  to wear some amazing outfits.:

Below :Show girls

Two days later we brought all our teens from our township “ youth at risk programme” back to our residential training center The Family Africa for a 'Fun day', and the girls taught them a hip hop routine.

Chloe and her latin/ballroom partner Jo were booked to  perform at a wedding, dancing samba, jive and  cha-cha.

Then as the Grande finale to the week they danced with Oriental fire at the prestigious wedding of Osman Ali and his fiancĂ©e ( He is the owner of 4 CornerZ Entertainment ) dancing bollywood, bellydance, fire and latin and ballroom (with Jo Meama).
Some of the family of the happy couple came back stage to take photos with the girls! ( as this was between costume changes only a BB was available for pics-as noted by the fact that Chloe and Tirzah only have half their costumes on :)
